Please join us and celebrate Women’s History Month through the BMCDB DEIC herSTORY seminar series.
herSTORY came about as a vision and means for us—a collective of female PhD students—to fulfill our desires to create an opportunity where we could hear about the often unheard but important and inspiring stories of women in STEM. These are stories that incorporate the struggles, the achievements, and everything in between in the journey of a female scientist; stories that hold the emotions to connect and inspire the future generations to believe in themselves and their abilities to achieve their dreams despite the challenges. We have four amazing seminar speakers from UC Davis who we would like to celebrate! Please RSVP to attend their talks: https://forms.gle/ZKDPuxGWNv5yUqGH6

I write to request that you please forward this message broadly to the faculty, students and staff in your department. This is an issue that we cannot meet with complacency. We are currently at 800 signees, and I think we ought to be able to do far better for a campus our size.
A number of UCD faculty, students, and staff led by Professor Stephen Wheeler (human ecology) have developed a Fossil-Free UCD petition, which officially launched to coincide with the start of COP26 in Glasgow. COP26 has now concluded with comprises and promises that are putting us on a path for global warming in excess of 2.4 degrees Celsius. In light of this failure it falls to organizations such as ours to step up to become a global leader in eliminating use of fossil fuels and show this can be done. Please sign the petition. You’ll find it here: tinyurl.com/fossilfreeUCDpetition Then please share this widely with your labs, your colleagues on campus, announce this to your classes and post on your social media accounts. Further info is at our new Fossil-Free UCD website, https://fossilfreeucd.org. Thanks to Roberta Millstein for creating that site. We will meet with Chancellor May later this Fall to present the signatures of this petition and ask him to lead our campus through the next, critical phase of the climate emergency by creating a plan to stop using fossil fuels to run our campus. Technically this is a challenge that we can meet, if we can muster the will and leadership to do what is right. Thank you, Mark Mark O.
