2022 National Diversity in STEM (NDiSTEM) SACNAS Conference @ San Juan, Puerto Rico
Our two SACNAS chapters representing UC Davis at the NDiSTEM conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico! There were amazing keynotes presentations, scientific presentations, workshops, and social events. We also had the chance to explore the beautiful area of San Juan!
Our chapter wanted a space on campus for folks to celebrate their loved ones who have passed on. To honor our ancestors, we set up a community altar in the Graduate Center on campus. This was on display for an entire week surrounding Dia de los Muertos (October 31st - November 4th). Anyone could add photos or items for their family members here. Pictured above is the altar on November 4th.
Chalk Talk Workshop
Dr. Anna La Torre, our faculty advisor, kick started the Fall quarter by giving a presentation on how to give a chalk talk! Dr. La Torre gave her first chalk talk when interviewing for faculty positions, and is now ensuring that our members are more prepared than she was. Dr. La Torre gave us an in-depth break down of what a chalk talk is, how to prepare and ended the workshop by giving an example chalk talk.
